Skin and Bare It!

Not too long ago, if a man spent time in a chemist looking at skin care products, it was probably because they were a little embarrassed, and plucking up courage to ask for a pack of condoms. All that is in the past though, as now the 21st century man has suddenly realised that he needs to take care of his skin, not only for appearance reasons, though women do seem to approve, but equally so for health purposes. With the improved advertising of skin cancer, there is no longer the desire to ignore advise and with proper skin care by means of appropriate cleaning and moisturising, it can have a terrific effect on the self-confidence of the individual.

More men tend to oily skin than women and looking after oily skin can be a full time job. It is often heredity, but can be caused by diet. So eating food sorts rich in proteins but restricted in sugar, fluids and salt are beneficial in oily skin care, along with plenty of leafy green vegetables and fresh fruits. A slight deficiency in vitamin B2 can cause oily skin. Nutritional yeast, wheat germ and organ meats provide both vitamin B5 and vitamin B2. The skin can be kept hydrated by drinking plenty of water, which will flush out toxins. With this type of skin, the oil producing sebaceous glands are overactive and produce more oil than is needed, consequently the oil oozes and gives the skin a greasy shine. The one advantage that oily skin has over other types of skin is that it ages at a slower rate than other skin types.

Smoking is also not good for oily skin as it promotes enlargement of the pores and impairs the overall health of the skin, but basically a lot of the oily skin care is down to basic common sense. Facial skin care is vital as it is the most delicate skin on the body. There are many lotions and potions knocking about, but good facial skin care often involves nothing more than a little extra time and attention when washing, either first thing in the morning, before going out for the evening, or last thing at night. Moisturisers are for both sexes and their effect can be astonishing; revitalising cracked and seemingly tired old skin and restoring confidence.
